Kingsmen Football Releases 2018 Schedule

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – California Lutheran head football coach Ben McEnroe is pleased to announce that the 2018 campaign will feature a 10-game schedule, five home and five away. The Kingsmen will play 10 games in the regular season for the first time since 1991.

"I am very appreciative of CLU's support in playing a 10-game schedule when given the opportunity," said McEnroe. "This is outstanding for our student-athletes and enhances their overall experience."

CLU starts the season at home on Sept. 8 and take on the Lutes of Pacific Lutheran (Wash.) at 1 p.m. It is the sixth-straight time that the Kingsmen have opened the season with PLU. Cal Lutheran won the matchup last year at home.

The Kingsmen then hit the road for back-to-back weeks and take on Pacific (Ore.) and University of Wisconsin-Stout (UW-Stout). CLU plays Pacific on Sept. 15 at 1 p.m. and UW-Stout Sept. 22 at 11 a.m. PST.

"We are excited about the opportunity to partner with Coach Birmingham and the folks at UW-Stout," said McEnroe. "They are a tough football team from the best conference in NCAA Division III football. They played some of the best teams in some tight games last season, so this is a tremendous opportunity for our team."

Up next, Cal Lutheran gets underway with Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play. The Kingsmen compete in four night games, three of which will be at home. The first conference matchup is a night game at home versus Occidental on Sept. 29 at 7 p.m.

Cal Lutheran plays three more SCIAC games at home. The Kingsmen get Pomona Pitzer on Oct. 13 at 7 p.m., Chapman on Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. and then La Verne on Nov. 3 at 1 p.m. Chapman is CLU's Homecoming and the matchup with La Verne is Senior Day.

"Playing Chapman, the defending SCIAC champions, for homecoming will be fun," said McEnroe. "The fact that the homecoming game will be played at night this year will add even more excitement. We have always drawn great crowds, especially for homecoming, and Chapman travels well, so Rolland Stadium should be rocking that night."

The three away games are with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Oct. 6 at 1 p.m., Redlands on Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. and Whittier on Nov. 10 at 1 p.m. Cal Lutheran and Redlands battle for the Smudge Pot, with the game also being the Bulldog's homecoming. The game with Whittier is the final regular season game of 2018.

The 2018 SCIAC champion will earn the conference's automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Football Championships.
