SCIAC Names Five Kingsmen to the All-Conference Team

LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. — The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its 2019 all-conference teams, Thursday morning, naming five Cal Lutheran Kingsmen to the honors list for the first time in their career. Senior Justin Fong, junior Ryan Probst, and sophomores Tanner Wright and Daniel Parr were named to the first team, and junior Christian Slattery was named to the second team.

This season, senior Justin Fong made his way from a valuable lefty out of the bullpen to the Kingsmen's ace. After pitching eight shutout innings of two-hit relief in the first game of the season, the transfer out of Ohlone College went on to pitch four complete games in his ten starts, including wins over No. 7 Chapman and a two-hit shutout against Occidental.

Also a transfer from Ohlone, junior Ryan Probst has been an invaluable staple in the outfield and reliable bat in the lineup. He is currently hitting .362 on the season with five doubles, four triples, three home runs and 28 RBIs.

Leading the team in seven categories offensively, sophomore Tanner Wright has been one of the team's most consistent offensive pieces. The leadoff hitter and third baseman leads Cal Lutheran with a .381 average, 61 hits, 12 doubles, five triples, 29 RBIs, 41 runs and 13 stolen bases.

Tied with Wright with five triples, sophomore Daniel Parr adds 23 runs, 41 hits, 11 doubles and a long ball of his own. Hitting .336 on the season, the outfielder also showed off his arm against Redlands, getting the flyout before sending in a rocket from right field to get the tying run out at the plate.

Rounding out the group, junior Christian Slattery leads the SCIAC and is fifth in the nation with nine saves – two coming against No. 7 Chapman and No. 16 Texas-Lutheran. The closer opened the season with 8.2 shutout innings of work and closed the regular season with a team-low 1.70 ERA, allowing just four earned runs in 21.2 frames.

The work is far from over for Cal Lutheran, though, as the team heads to Orange, California, tomorrow for game one of the SCIAC Tournament against Chapman. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at W.O. Hart Park.
