PASADENA, Calif. — The Cal Lutheran Kingsmen outwitted the Caltech Beavers, Friday afternoon, putting up 13 runs on 11 hits behind senior Justin Fong's second complete game of the year. The 13-3 victory also marks the team's eighth double-digit hit performance in the last ten games to hold on to first in the SCIAC.

Dealing from the mound, Fong allowed just three runs on seven hits while walking none and punching out six. Perfect through five of his frames, the win moves the lefty to 5-0 on the year with a starting rotation-best 1.50 ERA.

Picking him up offensively, sophomore Tanner Wright notched five RBIs in his two-triple outing.  The infielder now leads the team with 12 extra-base hits (five triples) and is on a seven-game multi-hit streak. Also with two RBIs of his own, senior Anthony Sidley went 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs, and junior Ryan Probst recorded two RBIs of his own with a bases-loaded single in the ninth.

The Kingsmen took the 2-0 lead in the second on a balk and single by Sidley to kick off the game and never looked back. And though the Beavers took one back in the fourth, Wright's two-RBI triple in the sixth pushed the lead back to 4-1.

However, Caltech looked to stay within reach with a run in the seventh. Unfortunately for the Beavers, Wright recorded his second two-RBI triple of the game in the eighth and scored on an error to bust the score open to 7-2.

Cal Lutheran was not done, though, as they tacked on six more runs in the top of the ninth. The Beavers allowed six straight free bases to lead off the inning – three walks and three hit batters. Toss in RBIs from Probst and sophomore Daniel Parr and the Kingsmen tallied their sixth double-digit victory of the year.

The win moves the Kingsmen to 17-5 overall and 8-2 in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. They return to Ullman Stadium, tomorrow March 30, for the final two games of the series against Caltech. First pitch of the double header is set for 11 a.m.
