Kingsmen Fall to Spartans in Extras

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The California Lutheran baseball team fell to the Castleton Spartan by a score of 5-2 in 10 innings Wednesday afternoon at Ullman Stadium.

The Kingsmen lost their second straight game and dropped to 5-5. Castleton got above the .500 mark and is now 2-1.

Cal Lutheran started the game very strong on the mound. Nate Wehner, Justin Fong and Troy Frazier combined for six scoreless innings and struck out 13 batters. Wehner pitched the first two innings and struck out four, while not allowing a hit. Frazier pitched the third inning and struck out three of the five batters he faced. Fong threw three innings and struck out six

The Violet and Gold to an early lead, in the second inning, as Chris Spohr singled home Cheynne Giles. The Spartans finally got things going in the top of the 7th and tied the game.

CLU bounced right back and took the lead in the bottom of the 8th. Ryne Yamashiro singled through the left side and Alec Iniguez came home to score.

Castleton answered and tied the game again, this time in the top of the 9th. Cal Lutheran had its chances in the bottom of the 9th, but failed to capitalize and left the bases loaded.

The Spartans took charge of the game and scored three runs in the top of the 10th. They went on to win the game 5-2.

The Kingsmen look to rebound Wednesday as they take on Bates at 2:30 p.m. in Ullman Stadium.
