Strength & Conditioning

The purpose of California Lutheran University's (CLU) Strength and Conditioning program is to create a positive training environment that enables student-athletes the opportunity to maximize their potential. Training regimens -- based on principles supported by extensive research -- encompass all aspects of speed, agility, conditioning, strength, flexibility, and injury prevention with an emphasis on proper exercise technique and safety.

The success of any training program is often the result of its implementation. To that end, CLU's strength and conditioning staff believes that trust and adherence are fostered through the education of student-athletes regarding the training process. Experience has shown that well-informed student-athletes are more likely to train with increased vigor and intelligence which, in turn, tends to promote accountability, discipline, team unity, and competition in all aspects of life. This is achieved in a challenging environment based on:

  • Understanding the fundamentals
  • Knowledge of correct exercise technique
  • Adding weight to particular exercises when appropriate

Accountability

  • Consistency
  • Promptness
  • Respect and communication
  • Character

Safety

  • Appropriate coaching techniques
  • Attention to detail
  • Application of appropriate exercise techniques

Sense of Purpose

  • Focus
  • Work ethic
  • Perseverance
