Marty Slimak was named the head coach of Kingsmen baseball in 1994. In 2017, Slimak led Cal Lutheran to its first national championship and a record of 40-11.

The winningest baseball coach in program history, Slimak got his 700th win during his 25th season with the team in 2018. The Kingsmen have won five Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) postseason tournament titles, which began in 2013. Altogether, the Purple and Gold have won 15 SCIAC championships, have 16 NCAA West Regional appearances and six World Series apperances.

Slimak has seen 13 of his players drafted to the Majors. He has coached three Frist Team ABCA All-Americans, six Second Team honorees and six Third Team selections. 

The Kingsmen have dominated the SCIAC under Slimak, winning six straight conference crowns from 1996-2001 and nine of 10 after joinging the SCIAC in 1991. They have also been the runner-up seven times. He also led the Kingsmen to 10 straight NCAA West Regional appearances from 1992-2001. In only his third season as the Kingsmen head coach, Slimak piloted CLU to the 1996 NCAA Division III championship game. 

Slimak's playing days date to the 1970s, when he played for former USC skipper Mike Gillespie at College of the Canyons (COC) in 1972. Following two years at COC, Slimak played two years for Dave Gorrie at UC Santa Barbara, where he earned his bachelor's degree. He attended UTEP on a football scholarship before returning to COC in 1974.

He earned his master's degree in public administration from CLU in 1996.
