Four Student-Athletes Earn SCIAC Athlete of the Week

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. — California Lutheran University student-athletes Maci HaddadIsaiah MartinTyler Sherard and Isabella Veljacic were selected Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Monday morning. 

Haddad (Bakersfield, Calif.) was the Women's Volleyball Offensive Athlete of the Week. The graduate was ever-present in a trio of victories for the Regals at the Cal Lu Fornia Invitational, totaling 37 kills on a .449 hitting percentage while adding 11 blocks, six digs, three assists and a service ace. The middle hitter's efforts led to a home-opening win over No. 10 Colorado College before wins against University of Minnesota, Morris and, previously receiving votes, Endicott College. It is her seond athlete of the week honor for her career.

Martin (Bakersfield, Calif.) earned the Football Offensive Athlete of the Week award. The sophomore trucked his way to 190 yards on 26 carries (7.3 per run), scoring a pair of touchdowns in a 35-27 win over University of Puget Sound. He broke open for a 75-yard go-ahead score late in the first quarter and put the game out of reach at 35-19 with a nine-yard run in the fourth.

Sherard (Chula Vista, Calif.) garnered the Men's Soccer Offensive Athlete of the Week honor. The senior helped the Kingsmen open conference with a 4-1 win over Caltech. He scored two goals, while on taking two shots, for a perfect shooting percentage.

Veljacic (Monterey Park) earned her second straight Women's Soccer Offensive Athlete of the Week award. The Regals defeated Caltech 1-0 to start conference, and then hit the road, coasting by Texas-Dallas 3-0, but fell to Hardin-Simmons 1-0. The senior scored two goals, both of which, were game-winning goals.
