Flores, Roberts Named SCIAC Athletes of the Week

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. – Two Cal Lutheran Regals were honored by the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) for their performances in the opening weekend of the 2018 season, Monday morning. Gabby Flores took home women's soccer's defensive player of the week while Amanda Roberts notched women's volleyball's offensive athlete of the week.

Flores helped the Regals to a 1-0-1 record in its first two games of the season, playing 155 minutes between the posts. She made five saves in 90 minutes of action in a 1-0 victory over Augsburg, matching her second highest single game total and most since October 4, 2017 against Whittier.

Two days later, she entered in the second half for Cal Lutheran in a 0-0 double-overtime draw with Hamline. Her save in the 86th, capturing a dart from the left side to thwart Hamline's only shot of the second period, maintained her impressive clean sheet to start the new year.

On the offensive front, Roberts paced California Lutheran to an impressive, 4-0 weekend that featured 3-1 wins over No. 6 Johnson & Wales and No. 14 Carthage, a sweep of St. Scholastica, and 3-1 triumph over Salisbury.

Roberts led the Regals with 43 kills during the week, averaging 3.07 per set, in addition to notching 38 digs (2.71 per frame). Against Carthage, Roberts smashed 17 kills and registered 14 digs, while adding 15 kills and 11 digs in the win over Johnson & Wales.
