Melissa Skiba, Track & Field

Melissa Skiba capped off her collegiate career with a National title run in the 5,000m at the 2015 NCAA Division III Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships last weekend. The senior focused on the race all spring and reached the highest of accomplishments with a four-plus second win on a cool, windy day in New York. Her time of 17:04.04 was off her personal best mark, but in a tactical race she stayed alongside the top runners throughout before pulling ahead of the pack with 600 meters remaining to win her first championship and lock up her fifth All-America honor (cross country and track and field) in as many national races. Skiba became the second CLU National champion in program history. She was also selected as the West Region Track Athlete of the Year, which was announced at the National banquet last week in conjunction with the Championships meet. Skiba graduates as one of the most talented distances runners Cal Lutheran has ever seen.
