Arik Smith was named the 2014 Thrivent Financial Tournament MVP after leading the Kingsmen to an upset victory over No. 9 Illinois Wesleyan and earns Athlete of the Week honors for leading CLU to a perfect 3-0 record between Dec. 22 - Jan. 4. The senior guard had 18 points in the championship game and added four steals and two blocks. In the semi-final matchup, Smith had 15 points after going 6-for-9 from the field and dished out a game-high seven assists in an 82-60 win over Fontbonne (Mo.). The Kingsmen increased their winning streak to six games with their SCIAC opening win over La Verne, 66-50, where Smith tallied a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. The Bakersfield, Calif. native scored 11 of the team's first 13 points and he also had four steals for the third time this year.
