A pair of CLU men's divers made history this weekend at the SCIAC Championships. Ryan Brem and Joey Zielsdorf became the first two male divers in school history to advance to NCAA Division III Men's Diving Regional competition, setting new school records in the process. Competing in his first SCIAC Championship meet for the Kingsmen, Zielsdorf became a Cal Lutheran record holder by breaking the one-meter diving marks for an 11-dive list. On Friday afternoon in preliminaries, Zielsdorf set a new record with a score of 461.10 before coming back on Saturday to improve the tally to 446.80, earning a national bid. He earned the first All-SCIAC recognition of his career by placing second and was joined by Brem who scored a 440.30 for third. Additionally, the duo each broke the CLU three-meter mark on Thursday in preliminaries, with Brem increasing his score to 432.65 for the new record. Both men will compete at Grinnell (Ia.) College from Feb. 28-Mar. 1.
